Ground down a lot of the welds to dress them. I also drilled the holes in the new pan over the floor supports and plug welder the new pans to the floor supports to reproduce the spot welds that were there originally.

Also I noticed a couple of rust pin holds about midway back on the floor. The metal in that area looked good, but once the insulation was stripped, it was paper thin. So I cut out the bad metal. The rotten area was over a floor support. I think at one time there was a bunch of mud of something wedged up under there and it rotted the floor in that one slot. A patch was cut and then it was welded into place.

Except the seam sealer and paint, the front area is completely done. Just a couple of small patches in the rear area to go.

Another rust area was found in the behind the foot rail in on the passenger side.

The area extended into the one of the floor depressions. I made up a patch panel and then screwed it in over the bad metal. Then used the air-hammer to form the patch to the shape of the floor and the depression. Basically used the old floor as a hammer form. Once formed, I unscrewed the patch, and then cut out the bad metal. Once again this was located over a floor support rail.

Then the patch was screwed back into place to hold it down and then welded in. But about 75% into welding it in I an out of welding wire. So I ran to HF to get another spool. Got that installed, and then discovered by C25 gas bottle was also empty. Damn. So I will have to finish the welding another today.

What you see it that last picture is the patch partially welded in, and the first past at grinding the welds I was able to lay before the gas gave out.

So since more welding was no possible today as the gas places are not open on Sunday, I moved on to stripping out the remained of the interior so I can get everything ready for interior body paint.

Also the headliner retained strips were removed from above the doors. Also removed all the rear window and windshield inside moldings. Also the remaining bit of wind lace were also removed as was any headliner remnants.

The rear view mirror and sun visors also came out. Need to do a bit more prep work and rust removal, and also finish up the floor repair and the interior should be ready for a coat of epoxy primer..

Looking Great Big Kev!!

While the headliner is removed make some seriuos plans to insulate the roof for future air conditioning possibilities.

Sur wish my roof was insulated. been trying to come up with a way to do it without removing headliner but i don;t think it is possible.

Keith, good insulation is for sure part of the plan!

More disassembly today. I stripped the inside of the doors down so I can prep them for paint and primer.

First two of the front inside handles (one lock, one window) were rusted to their shafts. So I had to use a slide hammer to get them to come loose. Even then it took several good whacks to break them loose.

I removed all the lock linkages and also the windows and door channels. I left the actual lock latches is so the doors would stay shut as needed for the time being, and I also left the window regulators in.

For now I am storing the windows in the trunk until I can find a better location for them. Also I need to replace the glass in one of the rear vent windows as it has a crack in the outside layer of glass that has been there since I bought the car.

Also I removed the two layers of board that make up the cover of the rear package tray. Interesting is the the bottom layer had sagged into the holes in package tray and someone had stuffed newspaper in the depressions so the top layer would look level. Paper was from Oakland, CA. Looks to be from the late 70s or early 80s. Both layers will need to be replaced as they are just bad.

Seam sealer arrived today, just need to pick up some more welding gas on Friday so I can finish the floors.

I was able to get another bottle of shielding gas on Friday, so yesterday morning I finished all the floor welding. I also had to cut out about 1/2 of the door sill out on the drivers side as it was pretty rotten. Once removed I looked down into the rocker cavity and it appears very solid. Replaced that section of door sill with some 18ga cold rolled mild steel that I picked up from the metal supply store and welded it in.

Once I get back from my east coast business trip (Hartford, CT), I will start to apply the seal sealer and paint.

I was able to seal seal the weld joints todays. Also sprayed some insulation over the bare panels to reproduce the texture and insulation on the rest of the floor.

While that was drying I make a gasket for the toe board panel.

Once the sealer and insulation was dried I sprayed the floor with a coat of rust encapslelating paint. I still really need another coat of it.

So with that setting up, I started to work on the under seat heater I sourced from the "Yocum Pile". This one came out of a 55/56 car, so it is already 12v. I just need to fix the frayed wiring, an cleaner and pressure test the core.

With everything checking out, I went ahead and derusted the housing and fan blades, and with then painted with some black paint. Tomorrow I will put it back together and then remove the knock-outs in the floor for mounting the heater.

I will still need to run the heater power wire forward and drill hole for the switch on the dash. Also I need to buy the longer heater hoses to finish plumbing it.
