1930 packard parts PLEASE HELP!

I just came across all these old packard parts at my cottage, i was hoping somebody could help me identify the model of the car that it came from and whether or not they would be worth hanging on to. so far I appear to have a grill, headlight bar, driveshaft, chasis lubricator, crank, crankcase, cylinder block with valves, pedal arms, various linkages, intake/exhaust mainifold, fan with water pump, two window rollers, steeringwheel with colomn, tailight, clutch, cam gear, harmonic balancer, gearshift and the floorpeice where the steering colomn and pedals come up through the floor. Most of it is in rough shape but there's a few things that maybe somebody would be interested in?? I'm going to say that the car was a 1930 roadster of some kind? maybe somebody knows better than me though. Thanks!

Hosie,

Welcome to the Site. Although I can't help with the identification, I think you could be in the ballpark with your thoughts about it. They are definitely worth hanging onto as I'm sure there will be people interested in the parts you have. Another way to look at it would be to start looking yourself for the other missing parts and build/restore yourself a Packard!

hey, thanks alot at least SOMEBODY got back to me! lol. Well it looks like everything that i have is in need of a very serious rebuild as i cant really picture alot of it being useable again. however the biggest thing for me is the location where i found these parts. They were up at my cottage in dorset ontario canada about 5 hours north of toronto and in the middle of a bush an hour away from anybody else. My cottage was originally owned by a car parts manufacturer company from windsor so the only way that I can picture the parts getting up there was somebody actually physically DROVE the car from windsor, about a 7 hour trip today, and then something went wrong so they parted it out and took the train back to windsor. All the parts have been up there for the entire time any of my family remembers which easily dates back to the early 50's. I just wanted to get a better idea of the car that would have made this rediculous trip and just gather some infor behind it just because its a neet story. Nobody that lived in the area at that time would have ever owned a car like that. Its like somebody in farm county having parts for a lamborghini in their shed. lol. thanks alot for your help and i hope you enjoy that little story!

Hosie,

It looks like the parts are from a 29, probably a closed car, and probably the larger Deluxe Eight (based on the motor number). The cam rollers, crankcase, window cranks, drive shaft, headlights and headlight bar are all probably very much worth saving. I imagine the block is shot if exposed to the weather for 50+ years.

Cheers,

Tom

All of those parts look like they could have come straight off of my 1930 726. Sorry to say, I don't know what other models shared the same radiator/headlight/steering wheel/engine combination, I'm sure there is a more knowledgeable Packardite here that can fill you in. Hope that helps.

Scott

I'm pretty sure the 170107 is the engine number. The Packard Club has a listing of cars with the series numbers for the engines. 170107 corresponds to the 1929 Deluxe Eight engine series.

I made the early assumption that it was a 29 or 30 engine based on the cylinder equalizing tube, manifold design, mounting for the choke activated cylinder wall lubricator and other engine details.

Just an FYI for future reference.

I havent had a chance to finish the Model Info pages for the 20's era Packard just yet, but the engine Serial Number range information is in place for all the other years. You will find it under the Model Year Identification list at the top of each years/series listing.

For example for 1930 here is the info:

Engine numbers: Standard Eight: 277013->305283, Speedster: 184003->184120, Custom Eight: 179001->184000, Deluxe Eight: 184501->187508

But that would mean the block number doesnt fit into any kind of category that you listed for 1930?
