For those of you who might be interested, there is a 1955 Caribbean just listed on eBay that is touted as having been "fully restored" down to the last nut and bolt. The photos are nice but the starting bid price is $140,000.00. The listing is headed as a 1956 model but the seller correctly describes it in the listing as a 1955 model.
Anyone wish to venture how many, if any, bids this car will garner? 1956 Packard Caribbean - Fully Restored - Mint Condition!!

I don't know if in the current economy that the car will fetch that much.

Carbs don't look right. Looks like an electronic choke.
I would say it will get zero bids. Lots of money.

55clipper, good catch on the carbs. The hot air pipes are still there, but the thermo springs and their housings are missing. Not sure what the red wire is for; maybe to manually open and close the choke plate on the front carb.

I took the red "wire" to be a red "twist-em" being used to hold the choke valve open.

Think the chokes have an electrically operated element which basically works the same as the hot air type only the heat is supplied by voltage on a heating coil. Looks like the red wire is running up to the ign ballast area to pick up voltage.
Only seen a couple of aftermarket installations but those I've seen run thru an oil pressure activated switch to keep choke from operating or starting to cycle as soon as ign is turned on. The engine has to start and develop oil pressure to close the switch before the choke will start doing it's thing. I believe the length before full open is somewhat adjustable.

Howard, I looked again and the red wire is wrapped around the choke mechanism to keep it open. I can see one of the ends near the insulated hot air pipe. It should be relatively easy to hook up the chokes as they should be.

You may be right. I see the open tube end but can't enlarge the picture and too blind to see the wire detail that well. I saw that strip of red wire running near the wiper motor and jumped to conclusions.
