I think if the sway bar is clean and you use a little kitchen dish detergent as a lubricant, you'll find they slip on w/o much effort. The dish detergent seems to work much better than silicone grease, for example.

Ummmm.....That for sure doesn't look like the sway bar on my '54!

From what I can see of the design of that sway bar, it's a 23rd series and earlier.
