Strap is needed or at least should be used. I see yours is on a rocker cover bolt. Usually I've seen it on the rear bolt on side of head (same one which holds the clamp for wiper vacuum tube from pump). Goes to a convenient screw on firewall as shown here. Not really important which bolt on engine but needs to be a good solid ground point. That is the only decent size solid or direct connect to battery ground for everything grounded to body.
Hose clamp also used and a drawing shows hose routing on page 12, figure 2 in accessories section of SM.

as always thanks HH!
yeah i like tht strap better if it was where the vacuum lines are instead of the valve cover. i think i'll move it there. and the strap, thanks i never would have seen that in the accessories section. never would have occured to me although the person before me didn't use it, so that is why it was throwing me off. plus i like that it routes that way rather then the way they did on my car. i think its connected to the top bolt of the left side of the water distribution tube...but i can't really tell. got some painting done tonight, which should conclude the engine painting.
the transmission i will have to do the bottom side once i attach it to the engine on the hoist, which is about the easiest way i can think to join the two together and lower it all into the frame as one unit. i did get some runs in the bellhousing, but eh...it will be under the car. Henry, The engine is looking quite smart in its new paint and sparkling stainless steel fastners.
Thanks for the tip on Totally Stainless. I ordered some stainless steel nuts and washers for the 115C. I am going to replace the steel cylinder head nuts and washers with stainless steel ones. Put a little makeup on the old girl. I like your hose clamps, but I thought Packard used Corbin type clamps on the V-8s. I can understand why you would rather not wrestle with the spring wire type. yeah i think they are supposed to be Corbin type also, but these came with the hose kit from Merrit and i liked them and they are zinc coated.
to me they look more period correct then the mordern stainless strap style at least. also i bought some clipper valve cover stickers over a month ago from the PAC and still nothing has come. i even emailed them about it about 1 week ago with no return email yet. wonder what is up with that. Hank

Quite a regular

Henry, I purchased valve cover decals from PAC when I rebuilt my 352 last summer and it took them quite a while to send them out (part time help I think). I think I even called them and had to wait for a return call, I did get them though. The engine is looking good, almost a shame to hide it under a hood!!
