Printable parts X-ref?

Is it reasonable to ask if the parts cross reference could be set up to print a year specific page or pages? You really should have this stuff when touring, particularly in the boondocks. Making it year specific would make it far easier to use, particularly if you are being helped by a non packard mechanic, of which there are many.....

That would be a nice feature, but it's simple enough to just jot down the relevant current parts numbers on a 3x5 card and keep it in the glove box.

The problem is that the year field is just a text field and people over the years have enter the information in a couple of different way. For example 1954, 1951-54, 1951-1954, 51-54, etc. So this makes it a little difficult to run a "by-year" query on the data. Also some items are specific based on if you have an Autolite or Delco ignition.

I keep a notebook in the trunk along with the shop manual....

Write it on a 3x5 card????? Doesn't work for me (not with my handwriting). Seems like a number of cards.....

Seriously, is it really that hard to write things so that anything relevant for a given year is included?

Pat it would be easy assuming all the information already in the database was in a suitable format. Basically to do the year field would either have to be in a consistant format so it is parseable by the query. Doable yes. Doable with my current schedule no.

I agree with Owen. Get someone like your Packard or non-Packard mechanic to write his/her recommendations for you. Talk with other "tourers" and get their recommendations for spare parts to carry while touring.

I went through all the 12 14 categories of the Parts-x-Ref. Duration: 54 seconds.

Suggestion: copy the parts in your preferred computer program (a text processing program like Word, a spreadsheet program like Excel, a database like Access, ..., it doesn't matter), then filter, sort, delete and print according to your needs and after less then 10 minutes the job is done.

It's possible that the question reveals my lack of computer skills....

Anyhow, I have compiled what I want and am set to provide light entertainment at NAPA, O'Rielley's or the Pep Boys....

It just seemed to me that it would be handy for anyone to have things set for a pickup for your year car......
