I have a 52/200. there is no flocking noticable in my trunk. perhaps a bit up against the back seat. i do have what appears to be the original cardboard type mat on top. I would love to see pics of some finished trunks and how they look. thanks

I remember our 52 Mayfair as having a light tan flock in the trunk. I don't know if it was factory or dealer.

Hello to all,
Thanks for the very useful information you provided. Seems like most US '51 200's had flocking and also some had a thin cardboard panel or Hog's Hair carpet on the trunk floor. I've called several owners of RHD Australian '51 and '52 200's and so far all have said no sign of flock in their cars. Have a few more to call, then maybe we will see if the export cars had a different trunk treatment. JW's blog was helpful at Adventures with a 55 Clipper and all over carpeting certainly seems to be preferable as it would be longer lasting / wouldn't wear thin and a lot more pleasing to the eye plus 'rattle proof'. More to come when I've made a few more calls.

Flocking came from the factory with matching "horsehair" or similar carpet for the floor. You will see original bags of Packard flocking come up on eBay every once in a while.

David,
Did I ever send you photographs of the trunk flocking and carpet? Was just reading this thread and don't remember if I did it or not. Sorry, if I forgot it.

Don't think so. That is on my list of things to do before the spring driving season, so photos would help. thanks

I am sorry I forgot. Here are the flocking images. Will photograph hogs hair floor carpet this evening or tomorrow for pattern components. Will you need measurements included?
Note on left side where flocking stops on trunk lid hinge and around the mouth of the trunk and floor. Attach file: (28.75 KB) (33.27 KB) (29.86 KB) (36.36 KB) (34.38 KB) (32.99 KB) (33.78 KB) (32.11 KB)

thanks Stephen for the photos. This will help me on the installation on my 200. Don't think I need any dimensions.

A thanks from me too Stephen. Now I've seen what the flocking looks like for the first time. I have contacted two more people here in Oz with 200's and neither have seen any flocking in their cars, but they might have had work done (like respraying of the trunk) sometime and therefore not be original.
I'm thinking I'll avoid flock as it doesn't seem to hold up very well against wear and tare. The hog's hair carpet would seem to be the way to go as it's original in some cars from what others have said.
