Lake Macquarie Run 16th - 19th March 2012

The Packard Automobile Club of Australia(PACA) is currently on a run to Lake Macquarie.

Day 1 - With most participants coming from Sydney, about 80 miles south, we rendezvoused and convoyed to the venue. After settling in at The Brighton apartments, later in the afternoon visited the house of William Dobell, a noted Australian artist. On the return trip visiting the WW2 Catalina Flying Boat base at Rathmines.

Day 2 - The morning, although raining, was spent on a cruise of the lake onboard the Wangi Queen where we were joined by members of the local Twin Lakes Classic Car Club. And, we were also joined by a pair of Dolphins which rode the bow wave of the vessel. In the afternoon, visited the Wallis Creek Watergarden where, while most enjoyed the tour, Peter Packard finally traced the reason for the bad running of his '56 Patrician. See the pic's, you'll be amazed it ran at all! The evening was spent at Aunt Molly's Olde Bakehouse Restaurant which was also the dinner venue of the Antique and Classic Car Club from Sydney (a couple of PACA members are also Antique and Classic members) and a very convivial time was had by all. With all being entertained by an Irish themed show, seeing it was St Patricks Day!

Open these links, Lake Macquarie - Day 1 and Lake Macquarie - Day 2 for the pic's taken to date. Still in the process of captioning Day 2 but most don't need words anyway.

Will further post after Day 3 activities.

Day 3 - After a refueling stop it was off to the Hunter Valley Gardens. There PACA was afforded premium parking by the lakeshore. Then, after morning tea of scones, cream and strawberry jam aka Devonshire Tea, took in a "train trip" around the gardens, very informative and a good way to gain a broad overview of the facility. After lunch most of the Packards continued on to the Audrey Wilkinson Vinyard while a few returned to Toronto.

Mal,

Thanks so much for sharing the photos. Looks like everyone is enjoying themselves.

That rotor needs to go on the wall of sacrifices. I've never seen one so badly burned. What does the cap look like?

John,

Didn't see the cap, but if Peter reads this maybe he can provide a pic?

Mat,

I heard a whisper you were at the Country Music festival CMC Rocks The Hunter at a vineyard literally just down the road from the Hunter Valley Gardens. If true, at the least you could have dropped in and said G'day Howdy!

Hi Mal,

Yes, I was at the CMC Rocks the hunter... i didn't realise you were so close otherwise I would have come over and said "G'day, I mean Howdy!" It was an amazing concert by the way.
