Here is a couple of pics of the ceramic coating I had applied to my 55's exhaust manifolds. They are still as black as the day I fired up the car with no burn through. Wish the ivory colored paint was as durable. The company was up in Seattle as I recall at this writing and late hour.

yeah i plan to take them back off after the show. right now they are presentable enough to take.

i'm going to find a more permanent solution then the 2000 degree spray paint i used as there are rust particles starting to come through already and i've never used the motor. either i sprayed to thin or the paint just sucks.

i'll check those links out and i do plan on looking at ceramic coating etc etc.

This place can coat most anything including different coatings for the inside and outside of pistons. On 55 or 56 T-birds, the manifold is blue. They can coat it blue and it stays looking new permanently.

They coated the manifold of the Duchess as cast-iron. It looks brand new after 2000 miles. And the exhaust system as steel, that doesn't burn up or rust.

For now, they won't be getting very hot anyway and your paint should, as you say, be perfectly "presentable." I want to point out that I just went to Google those sites I posted, and have no familiarity with the products or the companies. Others here obviously have experience that I don't. It sounds like "sending them out" gets you the real deal. I wonder if the originals were painted a special color by the factory, or painted at all. If not, "cast iron" would be the way to go, I guess.

Again, have a safe trip with 'er. Wish I was going to see it. Nothing to show either!

As a quick aside..... Per Packard International's judging guide......the is an "acceptable or approved" color for judging should that be any concern.

nah, idc anymore. motor isn't orginal. i'll do my best to make it look good without overdoing it, but i'm not out to win any concours award.

i want to drive it and enjoy it like you are.

For exhaust manifolds that were originally naked cast iron like 55 and 56, a very good method is to use Eastwood's Stainless Steel high temperature manifold paint. After a cycle or two of heat, it converts to a very good semblance of naked cast iron and mine has remained quite presentable over 12 or more years as a seasonal touring car.

yeah that spray paint at 2000 degrees is supposed to be cured too, but i don't have the means since i can't start the motor. thought about using my oven, but heard it can stink bad and mess an oven up quick.

Find yourself a cheap used electric oven and use that. You could even invest in the powder coating kit from Eastwood and use the oven to cure it for other parts.

Check Craigslist in your area. You might even find one in the "Free" section.
