Yes, the pic in post #1 shows a convertible. Please find below a contrasting juxtaposition.

For the sake of completeness and to surprise you please find attached a ZIS with sliding roof edge. I do not know the name of the body style, it has a flexible textile folding roof but fixed side window frames. Perhaps you call it semi-convertible.

Well, now... you seem to have answered your original question with the photographic discourse on soft, hard, and semi. Obviously, the item in question is simply a radio antenna. On your semi-vert ZIS, there is no choice but to locate the aerial on the A pillar, as the conventional center location found on your hard top is unavailable!

Joey, thanks for the sustained interest. The radio antenna in the first picture is on the left pillar (in the direction of travel) - just like all the other (original) car radio antennas for ZIS convertibles. Sorry for the bad picture quality.

The above shown pic was aired on RAI (Radiotelevisione Italiana) as part of a documentary.

Gerd,

A wild guess, because it doesn't look like a country's flag, I'm thinking maybe it's the flag for a head of state?

Something like that. Very kind of you, Mal. I will search for a forum of flag experts.
