Hello everyone I am going to get into the garage tomorrow to work on my 1941 clipper any segestions on removing the front clip? Will it come off in one piece or do I need to remove the bumper then grills then the front fenders? I am looking to get better access to to the engine to get it running and cleaned up and painted. Thanks in advance! I really appreciate any advice!

Absolutely. The bumper needs to come off, but the radiator can stay in place.

Just make sure you have extra manpower and big enough garage or maneuvering space. With radiator attached, the clip will be front heavy. It will need to lift evenly both forward and then up to get the rear fender splasher over the tires.

If the car is indoors and there is a beam handy, you can hook onto the two fender bolt brackets on the cowl, triangulate to the front and lift the thing up with a block and tackle. Then push the car out of the way.

When they put the nose on at the factory the wheels were on the car, but they winched the thing in place using a few specific angles of approach. I have pulled those clips single handed using a hoist.

Does any one know how the front fender attaches to the body near the door? Do I have to go from inside the car to unbolt it? Again thanks in advance for the help I couldn't do this without you guys!

I'm going on assumption that the prewar Clippers are like the postwars. If so, there are captive bolts on fender so if all present, 4 nuts & washer assys per side need to be removed from inside of car and one bolt going into body sideways at very bottom which is accessed from outside. Here's a couple of photos showing postwar location.

It might also be a good idea to use penetrating oil on the nuts before attempting removal. Again, if like the postwars the captive bolt is a square shouldered affair similar to a carriage bolt & held in a sheetmetal slot. If it twists during removal and distorts the slot, don't see any easy way of holding the bolt tight to remove the nut.

Hope you caught my edited suggestion on using penetrating oil.
