Does anyone have a picture if the inside of the roof of 1941 coupe, with the headlining removed? If so, I would be grateful if you could post it. I'm pretty sure I am missing some parts and wish to know what I need to buy.

If anyone has the parts Noel needs I will be at Hershey and could pick them up there for him. In the meantime here are a few photos of the Coupe when I saw it almost 2 weeks ago at Peter Packards place when I picked up the trailer to go get the Limo chassis. Disregard the dust, it's in the middle of a restoration, besides you should have seen it before!

Disappointing that nobody has a picture. Does anyone know the part #'s of the struts? I cannot find in the parts book.

Which is just a list of part numbers and the body numbers they fit. Thinking if they called it an "assembly" maybe they came with the kit?

As for a picture, I'm sure there's someone out there willing to rip gently peel back their headliner or has a '41 under restoration which could provide the pic you need.

It is interesting that there seems to be a difference in the callout of headliner materials needed. The Clipper parts manual has the different size listing wires plus retainers & grommets etc called out in sub categories of 31.458 but the 35-41 Parts book has none of them and skips right into kickpads. Could it be the conventional bodies used tacks and tack strips rather than the support wires? I didn't find any photos in the archive showing interior with the headliner visible and the photos of the headliner and body construction in the 41 fact book are of very poor quality because of the Moir? pattern so the support detail is not clear enough to see.

Does your car have the same retaining hole locations and the sharp tooth edge retainer above the windlace and doors along the side like the Clipper? Here is a photo of a postwar Custom Clipper which uses the longitudinal wires but the holes where the grommets would fit above the doors to support the side to side wires used in the prewar and other postwar Clipper models can still be seen. The toothed retainers are not installed but screw on after the windlace is tacked into place.

Thanks guys for the quick response. I'm not with the car just now, but I've asked Peter (Packard) to take pictures. From what I know, my car seems different to the Clipper.

In that case would a similar era pre-war junior Packard, say 38->40, be likely to have similar headlining mountings? If it is, might be able to extend the search parameters.

Well done Mal, initial sizeing up of these bows appears that they actually touch the roof and do not appear to fit easily with the body. I have a donor 38-120 headliner/ lining/bows and body at the Ranch, which I may have to check over. This is so typical of the frustration with Noel's car in that so many pieces are missing, related to effectively going to 3 bodyshops with no removal tagging of original parts. Not Noel's fault but perhaps a lesson to anyone using a not so reputable restorer to do their car. Ask for References and actually call the owners to verify that the Shop has done the job correctly. I have very little hair to tear out but Noel's 41-160 has wound me up on a number of occasions. PT
