So my 55 Clipper Custom Deluxe has become fitted (almost) with a 394 cid Oldsmobile Skyrocket complete with a pile of shit slim jim transmission behind it.... its getting there. A few years ago i was reading the post of "this is really gonna piss you guys off" and was observing the chopping and elongation of the front doors and fabbing a 2 door.....Does anybody have insight as to proper bracing as i will be doing the same thing? Also a breakdown of the steps would be nice, i plan on stretching the doors not replacing the front doors with 2 door factory doors....lemme know what ya think. Thanks

WHat's a slim jim transmission?????

What will u do about rear windows and regulators, door glass???? Most likely the car will get real weak unless u do somekind of frame or other body bracing. IIRC the Hardtops used 1 extra body mount outrigger at the frame.

Slim Jim? One of GM's most notorious (read LOUSY) automatic transmissions.

Thanks Eric, that was a good read, my only familiarity with the Slim Jim was by it's reputation for very short service life, it was kind of the laughing stock of the transmission trade when I was younger.

As i said piece of shit transmision, but i have had my share of frame off packard restos and its time a cool rat rodded Packard were to pull up on the scene, I am using what parts i have and can assure you this fine automobile will be jaw dropping minus the 352 and ultramatic transmission. And i have a feeling that if Eric gets his speedster done he will get long look at my tail lights. LOL

JT,

Any chance of a Project Blog on this modification? Would be interesting to follow along as you do the job.
