One answer to "what's it worth", what someone is willing to spend?

1912 Packard Model 30 Seven-Passenger Touring Car

2009 auction of $300K

Model 30 - drive along.

Very interesting exhaust sound from the "T" head four.

Noticeable lack of vibration at speed, owner states car has 100 lb. flywheel.

Dave, thanks for the detailed diagrams and offer to investigate further.

I spoke with the owner of the maroon Model 30 roadster today and can now answer the question asked in post #1 of this thread. The item shown beneath the car is a belly pan; it extends from the front of the radiator to just shy of the transaxle and from frame rail to frame rail; it was standard equipment on the Model 30 roadster, perhaps all Model 30s. They were also used on Cadillac and other cars of the era and the object should be obvious, elimination of air turbulence. Many owners have removed them to allow easier access to driveline components and many were probably discarded years ago.

Dave,

Thanks for the clarification. No doubt a few may have gotten hung up and damaged on road obstacles.

Dave

I doubt a Packard owner would have driven live this, but a Dodge owner.....

Dave (32model901), if someone would have driven slow and graceful instead of full throttle, then he would get stuck in the knee deep mud.

Here is a shot of one I got involved in. It was converted to conventional clutch. It didn't run when it came in and I wagered it would crank right up when it was together. Two turns of the hand crank and it was running. All 465 cubic inches.

Those cars are fun to look at but in a crack up you are a dead man as evidenced by another photo below from the 1910's.
