Gerd,
The spare tyre(tire) on the Packard in Post #10 has, for wont of a better term, "a high tide mark". Looks like it was turned from where it was sitting in the fender well showing up a lighter area which used to be at the bottom of the fender well.

Mal, if they really did every photo at the same day as the date marking indicates but changed the location a couple of times, then they might had been short in time and missed that detail. Dave, while speculating about the location another penny dropped. The publisher of the photos is Keystone View Company, a major distributor of stereographic images.
