In the photo in post #3 - is the dark colored connector, the fitting with two hex'ed ends, some sort of restrictor or valve? Otherwise, I see no need for that fitting. Seems some sort of restriction or valve in the line would be needed, or else you would have a HUGE vacuum leak. If the connector fitting does have a restriction, it may serve a purpose like a PCV valve does in later systems. Just curious.

There was some discussion recently about adapting PCV to our Packards. As I recall we talked/wrote ourselves out of the idea.

OK, dumb question, where can I find Service Counselor Vol 21 No. 13 dated July 15,1947? Doing searches here and on google and coming up empty handed. If I can't find a PCV, considering plugging the intake manifold port, but what came off the block then? Is it what I recall, just a straight pipe downwards?
