i need a favor. i need some real life pictures in detail of how the trans lines go to the cooler.

i can't figure out how to snake them in and where the mounting strap piece goes.

after looking at my really crappy out of focus pics from a million years ago, it seems like the mounting strap goes to one of the bolts of the oil pan maybe?
thanks

Hank

Maybe some help. No trans on parts engine and can't get very good angle on my car. Parts motor is too close to wall for cooler side.

Comes from side of trans to first clamp at bellhousing, routes behind dipstick and motor mount with a clamp there and turns corner & goes under vibration damper into cooler.

Howard many thanks as always! Not only did you show me the way it goes but that I need two seperate mounting straps that I didn't know I needed. Apparently I miss placed mine or it wasn't there. Man thanks a billion!

One other thing...the line that is in the top of the bell housing strap... Does it go into the top port on the trans?

Hank,

Wondering if you're planning to make this a "running chassis" before going on to buttoning up the body? Would seem to make sense to do so while you can still get at everything easily.

Are you planning to start refurbishing body panels a few at a time while they're off the car?

Just a couple of thoughts. Your methodical approach has been very effective so far, so I presume your going to continue at your own selected pace.

will be easy to make it running, but not so much for stopping since the brake booster connects to the firewall of the body.

for right now i'm just playing it by ear, but i do plan to put the body on eventually and leave the front off so i can attach everything easier. probably the last thing to go on will be the front body work.

i need to finish the trans lines, the generator i got from Mike Franko will need restoration, and the starter is also in need of help. the distributer has not been rebuilt yet either.

with my wife starting nursing school at 2k a semester...don't expect much from me for awhile, except small stuff.

Henry,

One possibly small thing you could tackle that would be a great thing to have straightened out before you get to the point of starting it is to make sure the fuel tank is clean and solid.

It could just be a matter of a quick "boil out," but if there are problems after you test-fill it, you'll at least have time to make that pesky decision about whether to coat it or start saving pennies to replace it.

If it all works out fine right away, you can sleep easy, if it doesn't you'll at least know thine enemy. A bad tank is truly an enemy of all old cars.

It would be really cool if you could do the first start with the fuel system all in place and using gas from the tank, instead of the usual awkward and dangerous can o' gas approach.

the only problem is the tank is suspended by the body not the frame, doesn't make much sense to hang it from the body that is cruddy. i will get the tank redone though, probably like BigKev did, but it will be difficult to suspend the tank until the body is done.

i'm sure i could come up with something to suspend it from the frame while the body is being worked on, but it does seem easier to just hook a hose to the line in the back and drop it into a gas can.

i will be taking apart the starter and the generator soon. stay tuned for that.

and i am doing a favor for Kevin with his stearing pump, so check that out as well.

nothing on the Packard recently, except KevinAZ's power steering pump, which can be found here....https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=9194&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=0

i have been getting some honey do things off my list in the mean time. i've been staying quite busy.

bathroom remodeled, shelves put in, and a new shoe rack for my wife.

i was also on the local news talking about Yu Darvish when i went to one of the Rangers games. My dad was on the news as well...but because of the strikes at Lockheed. autographs are 5 bucks each...lol...j/k.

Henry,

Any Packard Plant wood in the shelves?

Back to the car, I'm curious if you have a fire-up date to test the engine. Maybe that goes against your "surprise me" policy, which I kind of favor as well.
