woke up to a tacky covering this morning, i fully expect this to harden like a rock and be solid. after it dries i will come back and buff it a bit to get and small pieces of dust or lint off.

basically at this point it feels like putting your finger on tape and removing it. just sticky enough. but like i said....gonna be almost 100 today...in the garage...yeah it'll bake it in good.

i LOVE that its still got the shine going for it. check out my blue air hose reflecting in the black. oh yes...oh yes...

Stephen, THANK YOU!

thanks for following along everyone.....one thing i like about this....for purity.....can't get any more pure then preserving the original paint. that paint was put on by Packard....and i like to look at it.

enjoy the pics. i'll post again when its dry all the way.

Hank

I am too extremely interested in this patina process. I've seen similsr effects at many car shows and assumed that the process as clear coating? Now obviously, haved assumed once again I've made an arse of myself again.

Looking forward to staying abreast on the topic with you Hank. My concerns too are as Howard stated previously. Given the 100% dusty conditions here in southern AZ, how does one keep the surface "impregnable"? I have an exterior bar/cantina that continues to suck down old fashioned Johnson's paste wax. I know wood and metal are apples and oranges, but wax and your oil are naturally occurring.

The Clipper looks really nice Hank.

i bet this stuff would be great on your bar. but yeah keeping the dirt out of it while it dries would be a PITA.

i'm excited to see what happens when i get home today.

after work today it is much less tacky to my hand. I can leave my hand on it and it only slightly sticks. no imprints though.

I fully expect it will harden more by tomorrow.

gotta love that shine!

today...the side of the fender was still a slight bit tacky. less then yesterday, but still slight. i think cause i sprayed it thicker there. the inner fender is perfectly dry to the touch now.

gonna take some more time.

Leave it out in the Texas sun for the day, that should dry it out pretty quickly.

yeah its going in the sun.

the linseed that is over the painted surface is taking a lot longer to dry. its more like a glaze, I think the paint underneath is keeping it from soaking in. now the bare rusty parts....dry as a bone and not tacky at all.

I think adding the heat is going to dry it out better, I sure hope anyways.

Hank

The linseed oil isn't drying, it's undergoing a chemical reaction known as polymerization in which it is transformed to a resin-like material. Temperature will accelerate the reaction speed.
