Agree with that. Probably just a dried out accelerator pump. When you look down the throat of the carburetor and pump the throttle do you see a good strong stream of gas squirting into the carb? If not the pump is the culprit. Maybe it's time to buy a kit and rebuild the carb.

Sure sounds like an accelertor pump problem. Do the checks suggested and let us know what you find.

I don't see a tubing going from the carburetor to the distributor. Do you have the distributor's vacuum advance connected? If not, this would lead to a stumbling upon acceleration, plus other performance problems.

Please excuse, upon another look I see the tubing going across the cylinder head.

The vacuum tube for the advance is there. It's the thin tube running over the head in front of the carb. Every car I have seen it is always a bit misshapen.

Since the carb works fine with the delay I'll just wait for another day to do the carb kit. I had the carb rebuilt 3 yrs ago and it had the problem from day one.

This weekend is the car show so I'm just focusing on getting the car put back together enough to drive it to St Paul.

You may just want to pull the carb off and go through all the carb adjustments per the service manual. It doesn't cost anything to do and may be the source of the problem.

Guess what? A 1954 transmission oil pan does not fit a 1952 transmission; it's too shallow by 3/8".

A 1954 regular Ultramatic or the Gear-Start Ultramatic?
I myself have wondered if the late 54 through 56 trans. pan would fit (for the easier to use dipstick). The bolt patterns seem to be the same. The gasket is, too.

That's the question, isn't it...the pan didn't come with documentation.
