If the RTV is working for u then by all means rock'n roll. It is my understanding and experience that RTV does it's best job when clamped (bolted etc) between two surfaces.

One of the best sealers i've used is something called Seal-All. It's like a model airplane glue. Gas and oil resistent too. Fairly cheap. Down side is that it dissovles paint.

Thank you, everyone, for all the info about the pre-54 rims and tubeless tires. It is much appreciated. I'm still mulling the bias/radial decision. Fortunately/unfortunately I will have time to think while the valve job and general fluid change takes place.
You people are GREAT!

I removed H78 x 15's from my Packard 400 and went with Michelin X radials when I hit the road. I've had no issues and rather enjoy the ride and safety they are known to provide. Cheap insurance if you ask me!

Those are brand spanking new Michelins made in the USA (Nevada Michelin plant). Discount Tires; a national chain tire store!

thanks for all of the input everyone. After doing so much research, the white wall tires are just riddiculously expensive. I think I am going to purchase radial tires and apply the portawalls from lucas tires. I'll let you guys know how I make out.

Portawalls (the paste on type) are well known to loosen up and flap in the breeze.

After everyones comments, I think for safety and handling, and longer lasting, I will opt for the radial diamondback extra wide.
If I was only interested in shows ( which I'm not) I would use ply
