In the original "The Day the Earth Stood Still", right after all the electricity is shut off on the planet, there are a couple of shots with what appears to be an early '50s Packard with the hood open.

Anybody seen "DON'T COME KNOCKING?"

Starring Sam Shephard, Jessica Lang AND a Reinhardt-era sedan, green, and very pretty.

Shephard at one point identifies it as "a good one" and it sure is.

Also featured on the DVD case.

(if this has been referenced before, sorry I didn't research for it--but I can post a pic of the cover if anyone's interested in identifying the year an model Packard it is)

This one?http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_30728-Packard-Clipper-De-Luxe-1953.html I forget who first posted the link to the database but there is a lot of information for those unknowns that someone has compiled.

Thanks for reminding us of the IMCDb site, Howard.

That site WAS noted in great detail, with link, early on in this thread, but that info was lost when the author later decided to delete his content.

Yet, in view of that and the many posts in this thread, I'll make a brief post on this subject in the FAQ forum, with links back to this thread and that site.

HH56,

Thanks for the link to all that information about the car and the movie. I thought it might be a Clipper, but I hesitated to identify it as such, since it has the Packard Cormorant insignia stamped on the arched top of the grille. To me, that's an indicator of a Senior. It's very easily visible on the DVD cover, which I hope to get around to scanning and posting (with all due copyright information) unless that is verboten.

Here's the way the Clipper is depicted on the DVD cover. I thought it was a pretty nifty pic:

For some reason this thing jumped to a new page after my previous post. So, this is the start of Page Eleven.

It was just in a hurry to get all the way up to 11, I guess...

Edit: Whoops, I guess we aren't to 11 yet. Strange. It shows a page 11 on the General threads page, but if you click on it, there are no new posts.

Anyone else notice this odd phenomenon?

BigKev?
