apparently i'm living in a fantasy world......579 dollars to repair the radiator and the heater core, supposidly they are both trashed and need recoring.

the only option is my CC, and i'm having a seriously hard time using that thing, no matter how tempted recently.

time for me to stop. step back. and just chill. too much change around my house right now and i'm having issues with it.

Henry, $579 seems like an appropriate price, but it is all relative - if you don't have it, the price is too much. I think you are making the right decision to stop and think about the project. I have found that the more I try and force something to happen, the more problems I create. Maybe cleaning and organizing your garage will help to clear your mind. Take care...

(o[]o)

You can same some money and polish a lot of the trim yourself. Get a cotton polishing wheel for your bench grinder and some jewelers rouge. Good therapy.

like i said, i live in a fantasy world were the car hobby is cheap. lol

i realligned my ducks, getting back to the correct steps of the restoration. i was skipping ahead way too far.

the goal has been to get the motor running before salado, so lets proceed and try not to get ahead again.

parts are on their way in from Jason at AER, so i will beable to do the distributer, generator, and starter.

the radiator...i agree...i called another shop for a qoute...same thing and he agreed...its not going to be cheap anywhere i go. i was thinking 250 bucks at the most...not 600, but i'm silly.

so i'm going to move forward with the radiator as i will need that to start the car.

the harmonic balancer is already qouted out to be rebuilt in October for 125 including shipping. so i have time to save for that.

all that will be left then is the wires and plug boots and exhaust and it should start and run. could run without exhuaust but not for long periods.

i believe this to be a good goal, without racking up a bunch of debt. i have to have something to do besides sit and watch TV while my wife studies everynight....i'll just end up a fat slob that way.

Could the radiator cost way more than expected because of the surge in copper prices?? I have to have mine done too.. it looked like a lawn sprinkler the last time a ran the engine..

55clipperguy, Heck yeah! Most certainly the price of a new core for a radiator is going to be affected by market prices. I had the radiator in my 47 Custom Clipper re-cored a couple of years ago, and it was very expensive. I would hate to see what that same job would cost today.

Henry,I've been following your build since you posted it on a Z3 forum. I just read since I don't have much to add, but at 64 these cars were the type I was always working on. The picture in the "junkyard" reminded me that when I was a kid I wanted to own a junkyard someday!
Yeah copper prices are high and that doesn't help. You do have a lot of polishing and sanding to do though so you don't have to sit in front of the tv.
Are you going to sew your own upholstery?

thanks for following along, i'll probably leave the interior to the professionals and my wife is only an amateur on the sewing machine.

I got the parts from Jason, very very helpful dude there! i had several questions and her replied professionaly. i had a broken part and he is sending out a new one now questions asked. Great guy!

i got the radiator back, with a new 3 row core. needs some painting touch up, but overall turned out great! the heater core looks great too. total was 689.

i started putting together the starter as well. its in its rough stages, final product to follow later.

i made my own paper "thingys" don't know the technical name for them. but i made new ones from some gasket material laying around. not the same as orginal, but meh...should work...i hope.

enjoy.

Hank

Very nice. For the next one, McMaster carries the proper electrical grade insulating fishpaper instead of the gasket material for the paper thingy's.
