HH, you don't suppose the material i used will cause issues do you? i used a rubber impregnated fiber material used for making gaskets, from autozone. i figured it being rubber impregrnated it would be a great insulator. i used it on my stearing box as well, but just for a gasket.

yes it was nice to get into the garage after playing Mr. Mom all weekend.

Jason might have a better answer but for the low voltage, low heat and general lack of moisture I expect the starter will be subject to, doubt there will be an issue. If there were something that would wet, rub, vibrate or otherwise try to abrade it then I'd be more concerned.

Fishpaper is a stiffer, harder and more densely compressed yet still flexible material which is able to withstand a lot more abuse than ordinary paper or fiber materials.

Hank, that key blank looks just like my Golden Anniversary one. Great find. Don't cut it, it's worth more as a souvenir.

souvenir to start my car maybe ;0). i'll probably never sell it so value isn't that big a deal to me. i have so much Packard stuff in my house worth money....but not to me...its worth more to me sitting in my house, decorating my walls. we'll see what happens to the key once i get it.

not sure if this picture is worth posting, but here are all my end plates degreased and ready for polishing. soaked them in my magic miracle solution and 1 day later 60 years of grim wipped right off.

got the insulators from Jason. you can tell they are much more simple then my remakes of the originals and much thinner too.

one quick note, as pointed out by Jason via email, make sure the contact points of the end frame to communator frame to drive frame are all paint free so the ground connection can travel through the length of the starter motor. as you can see in my pictures i painted it all. i'll scrape it all off before assembly.

just more progress to report is all.

enjoy the pics.

Hank
