to Packardinfo, I'm pleased to have you aboard. I remember your kind offer of help/advice to me on the AACA Forum and our email correspondence some while back and glad that you've found your way here.

And now that you are here, could you include your Packards in the Owner Registry together with pic's, any known history and how you acquired them please?

Thanks for the welcome. I try to help, but sometimes I get busy and need reminding! Listing all the Packards I can do, telling all the stories may take me some time - but there are some fun tales. How are your projects coming?

Thanks for the all the detailed information you have provided. It strikes me that a thoroughly detailed analysis of how the 734 models were built i.e. what was shared with either the 733 or 745, what engineering changes were made, etc. would be a worthwhile project. A good article on this subject would be of interest to readers of both the CCCA "The Classic Car" and PAC "The Cormorant" as well as a reference for the future.

My interest in the 734 is mostly aesthetic, though with the knowledge it was created as a high-profile sporting image car for Packard. It seemed such a natural chassis for wealthy clients to send to custom coachbuilders for individual creations.

That it was inspired by other sporting makes of the era just adds to it's appeal.

Here is the factory photo of a 1930 734 coupe, that was never offered, advertised or had a known existence. It does not have a long cowl like the boattails, it doesn't appear to have a triangular radiator cap, has side-mounted tires and is does not appear to be low and sleek like the rest of the 734 line based on the high greenhouse.
It has the unique bolt-together wheel lock rings, the long sweeping fenders, and the lower series bumper bananas, just as the rest of the 734 line.
Note the lack of fender lights.

Thanks for posting the factory photo of the coupe, I've never seen it before. It's interesting, though lacks the verve of the styles they offered.

Perhaps if they had lowered the top line as they did for the sedan and club coupe, it would have been more appealing.

The tie bar wheel ring lock seems a good idea for lock rings in general. I wonder how affective they would be at high speed?
