The problem I'm having is the actual part itself. I cannot find a number on the casting anywhere so I don't know what I'm looking for.

The only thing that I know is I've measured mine vs. another 160 and it appears that there is a difference in depth between the two, which makes sense with the transmission mount being modified.

Still searching for answers...............

The part number should be cast into the back of the housing on the right hand side between the upper & lower bolt holes for the transmission. It might be hard to see if the transmission or support stand is in the way.

The standard part number for a 356 engine is 341718

Just curious if engine is the original or is it from another year and maybe the bellhousing is too -- like maybe postwar. The 40 160 engine number would start with a C.

It came from a preliminary parts book and only had the numbers I presented.

I guess I will need to contact Packard technical writers. Any body have their number ?????? LOL

Gerd, The casting from Belarus appears new or at least it doesn't look like it has any bolt holes drilled yet. Did the ad say if someone is reproducing them or perhaps made a copy for something like adapting a different transmission?

Gents, thanks again for the input.........

Howard, mine is an early car ,Engine #C500707. What I'm not sure of is the bell housing and transmission.
What I'd like is someone to confirm the depth of the correct 40 bell housing. (#341718)

I've measured what I thought was a 1940 and it was 6.5" deep. I didn't think about looking for a part number at the time, but it was definitely shorter than mine.

When I get home, I'm going to disassemble the entire clutch assembly to see if I can find any additional info.

BTW, I just got my frame painted, so I'm pretty pumped about that..........

I didn't measure any of my postwar bell housings and my shop is hundreds of miles away but #341718 was apparently used on senior models up to 1950. If yours turns out to be incorrect, that should give you more options to be able to find one.
