I swapped out the clock delete. Huge difference in the color. The old one was so faded.

Looks good and definitely a nice piece but am kind of curious if there was more than one gauge face and delete plate in 37 like there was in some models of later years. Your light gauge faces almost look a better match for the old piece but agree the crest is definitely faded and should look more like the new piece.

The gauges are very faded as well. They should be closer to the color of the new delete plate. The edges of gauges that are covered are the show this.

The 37 120s have a gray background with a linear pattern through them.

The soak in the evapo-rust removed all the rust from the back side and the pits on the front. Lots of green, probably from the oxidation of the copper layer. But it looks fairly decent for a driver. I'll give it a shine up, repaint the lines, and paint the backside.

Looking good Kev. I am sorry too that I related details on mine that are completely irrelevant to your 115, I did not know that yours are stamped parts and look to be very straightforward to re-plate if you chose to in the future. See, I learned something new today!

It would have been grand if these pieces were originally stamped stainless!

I assumed the ones on my '37 120 were pot metal. I'll take another look at them.

Yes, you are correct, the 120 uses pot metal castings. Not so for the 115.
I agree Kev, a little more stainless would have been a great choice, same goes for the grill, hood centre trim, headlight doors. I wonder why? Was it too much like the entry level cars? Nickel shines great when new, not so much now.

Stainless steel didn't get (accidentally) discovered till WW2.

Bit earlier than that. Invented in 1913 by Harry Brearly to solve the problem of rust in gun barrels of the British forces. It rapidly improved, around 1919 it was about to what we call 410 stainless. Duplex Stainless Steel was invented in Sweden in 1930.
Ford's Model A had it in their door handles, rad shell, gas & some rad caps.
Could be why the more exclusive car companies deferred from using it, maybe seen as a second grade or common product whereas plating was seen as a quality finish.
