OK, my fuel gauge stopped working. it is one of those liquide filled in the dash models. it does not appear to be leaking it just doesn't work. is there anyone who knows how to properly repair these? i will be removing it from the car this weekend, i am going ti try and blow out the lines first. but i figure i would ask about repair incase i need the service. have any of you dealt with this problem before?

thanks, for the help.

Dave, I've never tackled one of these myself, but there are repair specialists who do this kind of repair work. If you check thru Hemmings you will find one; let me know if you want me to dig out the contact information for you.

If it is King-Seeley, there is a page in an aftermarket repair manual I can email you if you PM an address. Classic and Exotic Service also offers a repair kit and some parts.http://www.classicandexotic.com/store/default.aspx

I take it the fluid went missing? You can buy the fluid from Mac's Antique Auto Parts, Lockport NY, $2.50 for a vial of it. You will have to make an adapter to connect on the air line to blow it out, use a hand pump, NOT high pressure AC air. The backer behind the fitting on the rear of your gauge may be made of very brittle pot metal.... I fixed mine on my 29 then lost the fluid about three weeks later. Have fixed several Ford gauges which are the same style.

ok folks, here is a update. the line from the tank to the gauge is blocked. i have tried both low pressure and high pressure air. so i am going to remove the line from the car. also, when i disconnected the line at the gauge it had grit in it. since i do not know when the last time this gauge or line has had service i am going to remove the entire assembly. and yes, i am going to drain the fuel tank to see if it is full of dirt/junk.
