restored 319ci engine but there seems to be a spacer needed in order for the two fan belts to go on correctly.
is there or should there be a spacer between the fan belt pulley and harmonic balancer.

Are you referring to how the belts are tensioned? If so, the pump body is an eccentric and when the collar is loosened the pump body is rotated to tighten/loosen the belt.

am referring to that once the pump is adjusted to allow the correct tension, the belt line between upper engine and lower engine,it seems to be off center.
is there supposed to be a spacer between the fan belt pulley and harmonic balancer, too alow it to all be straight.

I saw one today and believe the crank pulley is spaced out about a belt width.

Can't speak for a 7th Series small Eight, but on the 319 engine 32/33/34, the pulley sheaves are flush with the front of the vibration damper, no spacer. When the damper is fully pulled up on the crankshaft, the pulley sheaves align with the pump. Sure you have the correct pump and harmonic balancer?

Sorry for the late reply. Hopefully this will still help.

This is from a 733, showing the belts, pump, pulley and damper.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom: At some point you might want to replace your fan belts with ones just a bit longer. Correct length is that, when tightened, the oiler is in an upwards position and the drip cup portion of the casting is below the packing gland, not above. Minor point I know, you probably already know this.
