In the unfoutunate event that my vacuum system doesn't work, does anyone know where I can get a new one? I don't quite know if it works or not. Did all cars with cowl mount antennae have the vacuum system? Thanks!

Sorry, meant to post this yesterday but got busy looking for someplace that can replicate the hoses for my hydraulic windows.

Here's a picture of the windshield washer nozzle.

Will post the antenna pics but right now it is being less than co-operative. Will have to let the PB blaster work on the plugs a bit before they will release to get the mast out. Here is the switch picture for now. Vacuum source to middle port, other two can be your preference but for pull to raise, top of antenna to the one next to knob and for push to lower, bottom of antenna to the other. The cowl adapter is just tubes molded into the rubber with 1/4 in hose on each side. Your choice on those but believe the two closest to antenna go that direction and one closest to engine to source.

Here is the antenna. Appears to be a copper or copper plated tube 1 1/4 ID x 22 1/4 long. Travel of antenna is 18". Pot metal top piece with angled points as per all antennas and the usual fender stuff. Steel bottom piece with threaded hose connection (tube must be removed before piece will come out) that bolts to the bottom fender bracket.

Both hose connections unscrew and bottom plate removes although it does have some kind of sealer since it will leak otherwise. Top plate I am unsure of right now as this one does not want to come out--don't know if sealer or if the crimp about 4 inches down from top at vacuum fitting is holding it. Don't want to break anything but will try some more another day. It will have to remove for access to the top vacuum seal.

Mast will pull thru and out the bottom once that end is off. The piston assy is a brass plug threaded into mast. Two fiber washers with a leather cup seal on each. The cups point in opposite directions and then that assy is held onto brass plug with a nut. This leather is very brittle, possibly has shrunk and may be the reason they fail--possibly the top vacuum seal fails as well as that is exposed to any junk on mast. Inside tube or cylinder surface is surprisingly good.

Torbopacman/Eric Boyle says that the (original) windshield washer system will have either a foot pump or a motor (pump). Both of those are absolutely wrong. Now there's a problem with his information in that he has a disclaimer as to the correctness of his posts in that he may be being funny/sarcastic.

If he does not affitmatively state that his post is serious, he says it gives him an "out" on being correct. In other words he says his information is worthless. I wholehaeartedly agree.

The 22nd/23rd series windshield washer system has a round glass bottle mounted on the fiewall, a screw-on top about 5" in diameter with two connections on the top. Look on ebay under windshield wiper for typical units. One connection is for output water which goes to the nozzles, the other is a vacuum line which comes from an acutuating chrome buttoned switch at the lower left of the dash. Inside the jar is a mechanism that is actuated by the vacuum.

I am not sarcastic or making jokes and am fully responsible if my information is wrong. I will apologize and correct it as is appropriate. I respect this forum, its readers and its purpose of sharing information. There are plenty of forums for sarcasm, ridicule and other such activities, this is not one of them.

Fred, can I ask you why exactly that you have such a hard time with me when I've done nothing but thank you and support you on here?

As for the seriousness of my post, I was completely serious. I have for in fact seen foot operated pumps in Packards, as well as vacuum operated ones, as well as ones with an electric pump. They may not be all 100% Kanter-Chinackard approved equipment, but I've seen them all the same.

I will tell you this, you've now lost a customer, and I've been telling people for years to buy stuff from you. From now on I will tell them to go somewhere else. And I will never buy anything from you ever again and will use every catalog you send me for the bird cage. You obviously have zero respect for me as you keep singling me out in damn near every post you make.

And I figured you'd back out on your offer to send me parts to analyze, didn't figure you wanted what I'd most likely find to be known anyway.

To Turbopackman:

JRBUZZ stated that his car came equipped from the factory with windshield washer equpt. Whjile you may have seen a pump or a foot pedal/pump on some Packards that does not make it original and might tend to mislead some readers. YOur posts are stated most emphatically and authoritatively
and leave no room for doubt that you are 100% correct.

As I recall there is an accessory brochure or owners manual that shows the system and know the installation sheet has detailed drawings.

You might have seen 1 or 100 cars with non-original washers, but there are plenty of places to check what is original. I have seen Packards with Perkins Diesels, Chevy V8's etc, but I surely don't go around saying they're original.

Thank you for your support. I have no problem with you, I do have a problem with anyone who gives misleading information when the correct info is readily available or masks their real point, whether they be politicians, principals or Packardphiles.

Uhh, I never once stated it was original, I was just stating the different versions I've seen regarding wiper washers.

When you state this: Quote:

You are in fact wrong. I never once stated most emphatically and authoritatively that I was the only correct source of knowledge regarding anything on Packards. You're misreading my posts and drawing incorrect conclusions.

As for thanking me for my support, well, you're too late on that aspect. I stand by my statement that I will never buy anything from you again and I will tell others to do the same.
