1956 374 Motor Mount Question

Guys...I am looking for a set of Motor Mounts for my 374 Packard and I have seen 3 different pictures of motor mounts for the Packard V8. Can anyone tell me or show me exactly what these should look like? If anyone has some that they would like to sell I would be interested. These will ultimately end up being modified as the engine is going into my 1949 Studebaker 2R5.

Thanks,
Steve

Suggest waiting to order motor mounts until you begin mounting the Packard V8 in the Studebaker truck frame. I couldn't use the OEM Packard mounts because I modified the firewall to move the engine rearward. Your results may vary.

If you look in the search section for "motor mounts" you will find a posting on Feb 6, 2009. I converted chev motor mounts for my '56 Golden Hawk. I wanted the interlock system in case the rubber failed. My email address is changed to waynemh@shaw.ca,if you want to contact me offline.

It's when the rubber fails. Of course, all the OEM '56J mounts are more than fifty years old, but every engine I've pulled, the mount was separated. It was just a bad science design.

Of course, with all their engineering resources, the GM mounts also failed in use, which was why they had to redesign them with the interlock feature.

Motor mounts were made from the 30's to the mid-60's without an interlock and there were no safety hazards. As I recall, the later designs of the throttle linkage created a safety hazard because when the mount separated it caused the car to accelerate. The design of the Packard throttle linkage did not cause this dangerous conditon. A safety interlocked motor mount is sort of like having a life raft on a bus.

Fred, that raft would come in handy if the bus ends up off the road in into the water. Just saying.
