Looking good. I agree the bottom pic of the manifold is closer to the Clipper color.

It might be helpful for you to look at investing in some "warmer" fluorescent tubes for your painting and finishing area. Your camera might have a setting to correct for the "cold" light of ordinary fluorescent, but it's better to be able to see what you're getting before the picture-taking. Since you're a gadget-guy, I'm betting you can find a couple of better lights for reasonable cost.

Funny thing is those are new lights, twin 8' fluoros on a cold start ballist. Bulbs are 110w each cold temp cause they were the cheapest. I didnt paint it there, just took the pic there. Got some other pics i'll post shortly of it mounted on motor.

You can get FLD florescent daylight tubes that will give you high noon color temp. Close to color temp of electronic flash so you will record "real" color. Not that expensive.

The heat from the exhaust crossing underneath the carb will burn the paint on the intake manifold in very short order. When I redid the heads on my 400 I blocked off the heat passage in both heads with brass core plugs that fit the opening very snugly. I only drive the car in warm weather and the heat under the carb is not needed. Even on very cool days the car only requires a few minutes warming up to run normally. I also have the choke set wide open. Others have said they don't like to do this, so I am just posting it for your consideration.

Henry,

First off-- reaaalllly purdy! Your patience is paying off.

Second, in respect to the "high noon" or "full spectrum" (as they are generally labeled), they tend to be harsh if used for regular lighting situations such as shop lights (makes you realize how "harsh" sunlight really is)! You can get the effect you want for photos with one of the spiral type bulbs which are also available in "full spectrum", and a light stand of some type to position over parts etc.

I know, details, details, but I figure you're a detail guy, so...

got lots of painting done this weekend, which is a miracle since my nose is running all over the place. stupid weather.

and my long time friend, my 10 year old dog...buddy...i had to give up. He bit my son on the hand, which was bound to happen at some point. He was a very tempermental old fart of a mutt dog and has snapped at other people in the past....but i'm not taking ANY chances that my son will be malled. NOT worth it. so i had to make a difficult trip to the pound to surrender him. i'm pretty sad and bummed...so i kept busy on the Packard. I'm just glad it was only my son's hand and not his face.

anyways enough sad stuff. i also got my water pump put together, i was much more careful with the seal this time when pressing in. i put loctite 518 on it as well. i put in the freeze plug in water pump housing and used some loctite 518 on it too. i still need to press on the fan blade hub piece. i painted the motor with 2000 degree flat black rust stopping primer type paint. i painted the headers too.

i got a set of 11 Champion H-10 sparkplugs, which were not cheap, but they are original type.

i had to drill out the snapped off bolts in the headers and retap them. i was off just barely on that one as you can see. hopefully it will work okay. i used a 3/8 NC16 tap on it, hopefully that was the right size as i used a gauge on the good header to determine and that was what i came up with.

on a happy note, my son decided to help me work on the washing machine and he hammed up the camera which put a smile on my face. what a good boy!

here are the pics.

enjoy

Hank
