Which thermostat?

Discussed elsewhere that my 56 Patrician is having air added. Will be flushed in the process.

Would you install a new thermostat, assuming it has one?

Rock auto, who I do not consider reliably knowledgeable, offers about a dozen different units.

Nothing is listed in our X-ref under cooling systems.

If I need to pick one up locally (e.g. NAPA) does anyone have specific model numbers and or preferences?

Pat,

I used the thermostat pictured below. I like it because it will stay open if it fails. I believe it only comes in the 180F rating. I bought it at an O'Rilley's auto parts store.

There is a 160 degree version, called the 7200-160. Autozone carries it but won't sell it to me since "It doesn't fit your vehicle...."

There is no stupidity quite like pompous stupidity.....

Pat, the 7200 160 stat would be my choice for your car. Just go in and buy it by the part number. If they ask, tell them it is for a 1970 Corvair.

And I'd bet there are some who would look it up and still give him grief because they couldn't find a thermostat listing for a Corvair, let alone a 70..

It has been sunny and in the seventies here, which apparently scared the old thermostat into acting as it should. I gotr the new part and am saving it for the moment.

When I went in to pick it up I was informed that there is no such thing as a :Packard"...which may be one new reason it wouldn't fit.....

Whoops...I was in the car. "YES SIR!"

Much better....
