Do we have any members residing in the Tallahassee, Fla area?
I sent my grille and accompanying pieces to
POTMETAL RESTORATION in Tallahassee. They quoted a price which I agreed to and I sent them a check as requested.
They notified me the items were done and requested the balance.
I sent them a check for the balance and return shipping.
They were late in shipping but promised to get the pieces shipped last Monday 09/10/12.
They have not.
Is this still a legitimate business?
Can any fellow Packard owners check on this organization for me?
Thank you in advance.
I had done business with this outfit years ago and assumed they were trustworthy.
Address is
4794-C WOODLANE CIRCLE
TALLAHASSEE, FLA. 32303

Could they be waiting for your check to clear? Also, have you checked with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) for complaints? Good luck and keep us posted.

We now wait until the check finally clears from the issuing bank at our business before shipping any goods, this can take up to two weeks in some instances. We communicate this with our customers, that is vital. We prefer doing business with credit cards for this reason, it's faster for everyone involved.

Allowing time for personal checks to clear is a sound practice. It's a shame that a few rotten apples spoil it for the rest uf us honest folk.

Even when I was eBaying some surplus parts, several years ago, I always waited 10-14 days for personal checks to clear, but I made that clear to prospective bidders in the item description.

However, that may be a moot point in this case, as Randy indicates the plater had promised a specific date for shipment. I doubt that they would have done so if there was a problem with payment.

The checks have cleared.
They don't respond to my emails and don't answer the phone.

Doesn't sound good.
Just out of curiosity I checked the N. Florida BBB site for Custom Coatings (same mailing address)
They are not BBB registered and have an "F" rating with 4 complaints for service and 1 for delivery.

I had entered a BBB complaint late last week.
I am assuming that it did some good.

My parts arrived today.
They were plated.
I would rate the work as "fair".
They broke one of the grille mounts, but it will install OK.
Several small pockmarks left on all pieces.
Most folks will not notice.
I will not recommend them.
The local shop cannot handle anything longer than 48 inches which is why I sent them to a plater that I had done business with before.
The shop is obviously under different management.

At least you got them back intact and usable so that much is a relief. You'll sleep better tonight or at least I know I would.
