After sanding down to bare metal, any of you guys use Gibbs lubricant? They say it great for anti rust?

Also, in the late 50's, how big a job is a v 8 engine rebuild?
Are these easy to work on?

OTher than size and weight there is nothing that sets the PAckard V8 engine apart from any other OHV V8 engine (US built) of the 1950 thru 1980's era. IF u can overhaul a SBC u can overhaul a Packard V8. The Packard is just alot bigger and heavier.

Of course parts availabilty is another issue. Betwee n all of the Packard parts suppliers the parts are all avialable. Replacement pistons and rod bearings seem (historically) to be somewhat controversial tho.

The other problem is finding any general engine rebuilder/shop that will tackle the job because the Packard V8 is just not a common everyday occurence. Let me put it this way:
IF u farm the job out to someone else, that is not a Packard specialty rebuilder, then u'll stand in line behind all of the other engines in the shop that ARE more mainstream than the Packard V8.

So your original question begs alot of other questions as to how to answer the original question more imtellegently.

Gary (and Big Kev),

Like the other thread, suggest this one also be moved but to the V8 Forum.
