1949, 327 head bolts

The 49 Super 8 has not been driven much, for quite a number of years. After driving it a bit, I have white smoke from the exhaust. No water in the oil though...Suspecting the head bolts might have to be torqued.
What is the correct torque? I'm sure there is a sequence to follow...
I thought I would try that before a head gasket.
Just wondering if the bolts can be torqued after so many years, without taking the head off.
Much thanks!

If you've got white smoke it may well be too late, but worth a try. The head nuts should be torqued to 60-63 ft-lbs. There is a factory recommended pattern but basically you just start in the center and work your way forward-back and right-left in a spiral pattern. This image courtesy of Motor's Manual.

Thanks Owen, I will give this a try.
Is there any tips on removing the head bolts if the torque does not work? I hope they all come out without a problem, after so many years.
Thank you again! Al

ALM, no bolts - nuts on studs. Some studs may want to unscrew with the nuts, and unfortunately, some studs may break off. I hope yours all come off as they should.
