Just saw a show on velocity netwrk about a car designer Art Fitzpatrick but it was mostly about a car he worked on back in the day. It was a prototype with no running boards and a 39 business coupe rear end. Pretty cool to see cars like that. I guess several manufacturers doing the same at that time? Buick Y job and such.

Hi CustomClipper55

Art Fitzpatrick was describing his design work as a 19 year old at the Darrin shop in Hollywood on this 1940 Packard being developed to add to the convertible Victorias to be built in Connorsville, Indiana. Ultimately, only the convertible sedan in the same design ethic were produced.

His account of designing the four door Darrins was published in CCCA's publication The Classic Car in Volume LVIII, Number 4 - Winter 2010. It's a fascinating read, enough to make the hair on the back of your neck raise when you realize the quality of his designwork at a very young age.

Hemmings Classic Car magazine also had a good article on this car and its wonderful restoration by Mike Ames in issue #53 February 2009.

Steve

David, my good friend, I would never abandon the Packard family and was waiting for you in February to introduce you into another (parallel) Packard world. Have you been in Berlin? And if, why didn't you alert me?
As a side note .... this year we met each other. Well, I haven't sat in the front row. We are in the same age, many of the valued owners are senior by a good many years.

Sorry Dan (customclipper55), as you know, the old members sometimes wander from the path of duty. It goes without saying that this thread revolves around Mr. Fitzpatrick.
