Major Brake Adjustment Question

I have a question on the major brake adjustment procedure for my 115C. My small service manual says to adjust the bottom of the secondary shoe's lining so there is .010" between it and the drum surface using the eccentric at lower back of the brake backing plate, and to set the top adjustment to the same spec using the eccentric at the top of the plate. One does this using a feeler gauge through the port on the outside of the drum. Then with the star wheel, adjust the brakes until they drag and back off so there is no drag. No confusion here.

Question: Is this adjustment done with the star wheel adjustment all the way in or in its present position that was done the last time the brakes were adjusted? My small service manual does not say anything about where the star wheel adjustment should be doing this adjustment. I have not removed the drums, nor have I replaced the shoes.

Thanks for your help.

That procedure only works properly with new parts, or shoes that have been matched to the present drum diameter.

So your best bet is to run the adjuster out so you can center the shoes as best you can.

Thanks, Tim. Your advice lines up with mine after I thought about it. I was over thinking the job and thought a major adjustment on the seasoned linings and drums would be the thing to do. Obviously not. I'll try your suggestion tomorrow.
