Kevin,

VERY, VERY nicely done. Excellent photo-illustrations. Makes me wish I had a post-war Packard with a Ranco to repair!
You are making PInfo an place where Packard hobbyists will be coming for years to come for instruction, help, and d-i-y directions.

EXAMPLE: I have been to 2 great Tech Workshops put on by MN Packard Club in 2007 and 2008. Got lots of GOOD info, met dozens of new friends, and will return in 2009. BUT the other 364 days each year, I have to read a manual (if i have the right one), phone a friend, hire a mechanic, go trial-and-error to get the job done (on the fourth+ try).

PInfo website uses technology to offer 24-7 X 365 HELP for Packard Lovers.

Thanks for all U DO!!!

DanL

Having seen so many articles - both online and in print - where the pix aren't handy to the text, I sure like your layout.

I hope to put this to use with a leaky valve on one of the Pats next summer.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback.

For the layout, I did it in Word using a 2 column table. Each picture and it's corresponding text was in it's own row. Then a header and footer to contain the title and copyright info. When I was all done, I just made the table borders invisible, and then printed it to a PDF using the full version of Acrobat. So it's a pretty simple layout, and the direct to Acrobat conversion retains all the text based information in its native format. Which means small files and clean printing.

I know that I hate it when I read a Tech article in print, and pictures dont match story, or key pictures that should be included in the sequence are not. But I can understand with printer that every square inch of paper is money. So they have to squeeze 10 lbs into a 5 lbs sack. I dont really have that issue in digital delivery.

For everyone thinking of doing this rebuild, I would buy that NAPA seal as soon as possible and store it for later use, as you never know when the supply will dry up!

Big Kev,
Your Ranco article and diaphragm part number is helping a friend of mine who is restoring a '60 Edsel Convertible. Turns out the core parts are basically the same, and the diaphragm is the same. A few of us own these cars, and never new the heater valve fix was this easy. Information abounding on this great site; Thanks form all of us!

You are more than welcome. Have your friend let us know how the valve rebuild works out for him on his Edsel. I know that Rancho made several different style valves, but I think the overall procedure is bascially the same.

Not sure about GM products, but I know that both Ford and Chrysler used the Ranco valves.
