We all know that rumble seats are awkward to get in and out of, even when these cars were new. I just saw a picture of a 1930 Chrysler imperial with rumble seat that had an entry from the side. Is there a reason this wasn't used in other brands like packard or cadillac?

Interesting. Patented idea or the old standby reason of "Not invented here" maybe?

Hi BDC

That appears to be a '30 Imperial convertible coupe with body by Locke & Co. on a 136" wb. Custom coachbuilders frequently included this feature in their bodies for those luxury chassis with sufficient wheelbase length to accommodate it. It was a fine idea, much better than climbing up the rear steps on the bumper bracket and fender, contorting one into the rumble seat.

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

Any known packards with custom bodies that have this feature?
