Seat springs

Here is a picture of my front bottom seat springs, notice the offset spring on the driver side. That was that way from the factory, I just sandblasted the rust and rattle canned some paint on it.

Any ideas on why it's offset? The pax side is normal, all lined up. Maybe they were adding a bias for the driver's butt sliding across more often? Anyone else seen that?

Since the back is lined up, to me that would be where more of the sliding would occur and I would believe someone messed up more than it being deliberate. Wonder if someone made a repair while the seat was assembled and for some reason the clip couldn't be accessed with crimping pliers in the proper spot and was done that way instead. I would be sorely temped to straighten it so there would not be a soft spot.

Seat construction was different between the Clipper and Packard car lines. The '54 Salesman's Data Book illustrations show the extra coil construction used in the Packard seats but not the Clipper seats.

If you take a look at my project blog, there are some pages that show my seats stripped down. That was before I got my current seats from back east.
