Source for Type DB and JHE Bijur metering units (drip plugs)?

Dear All,

Do any of you know of a source for metering fittings for 'one shot' or 'pull daily' Bijur lubrication system. The metering fittings are of the type DB and JHE. They are different from the later metering fittings found on the automatic, vacuum driven systems (from 1932 forward, I believe).

Or, if not, does anyone know how to service these little beasts. It would appear that each fitting has a bit of filter material present, and this material is probably as gummed up as the lines were in my car (1930 733 sedan).

As per usual, any and all help is very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom

The filter material is felt and you can service them yourself if all they need is cleaning. I presume you've reviewed the Bijur service manual I submitted to this site a while back, covers both types? Simple disassembly and cleaning, and possibly replacing the felt should be all that's needed; I've had to clean 2 or 3 on my 34 though all the rest still work and haven't needed service. Pretty simple job. If you want new ones, in addition to Classic & Exotic as mentioned, Bruce Blevins advertises new Bijur drip plugs is most sizes and I believe he has both the automatic and manual types. Bruce advertises often in The Cormorant News Bulletin and perhaps elsewhere. Let me know if you can't locate him.

Dave,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I read the service bulletin you donated to the site. This is where I saw the little felt filters. Unfortunately, I could not find anything in that source about servicing the metering fittings that sounded like it applied to my car. Am I wrong in this?

Is the Bruce Blevins you speak of this fellow:

bornemanandpeterson.com/blevins_screw.htm

?

West,

Classic and Exotic does not appear to carry the metering fittings, though they have many of other parts.

Thanks all,

Tom

It's been a while since I read the Bijur manual, perhaps they just thought the servicing of the metering units was self-explanatory, just disassemble, clean and reassemble.

You've found Bruce Blevin's corporate entity but I believe he separates his hobby activities from his corporate work. Try emailing him at <blevinsb33@aol.com>, or calling him at 810-695-2549(home)or 810-744-1820 (work). Tell him I said hello. He's got quite an assortment of repro items for 1933 and 34, not sure of the earlier years but you'll find out.

Dave,

Thanks for the contact info. I will ring him up on monday and see if he has any of the JHE metering units. I ended up bunging up a couple of mine.

As for disassembly and cleaning of the units, I am apparently being quite dense. I apologize for continuing to pursue this, but I am baffled as to how you take these little things apart without screwing them up.

I have attached a couple of photos of a DB3 fitting. The rest are the same style, just different orifice sizes. What on these comes apart? It all looks like it is crimp fitted and maybe even brazed.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom, what you've pictured is as far as diassembly goes, that part contains the filter felt and orifice. No moving parts within as I recall, just soak and back-flush with solvent to clean the felt filter until its unrestricted and done.

Good Day,

I reproduce the metering units for the Bijur lubricating systems. If your car is a 34, the units would be DC. I make from 000 through 5.
