No idea on your question about the Everhot but functionally the two factory valves are identical. The orientation is changed with AC because the evaporator box takes up some of the space the valve used on non AC cars.
The hole in the firewall is the same as is the configuration of the copper tubes on the valve so the heater hose connections remain the same. To make the change the AC valve has a different orientation for the copper tubes which results in the base being mounted at a diagonal. The sensing tube is located on the valve end with non AC valves and on the side of the AC valve. There are openings in the plenum or evaporator box so the sensing tube gets warm air blown across it thus the need for the different sensing location. I had an NOS heater control valve in Studebaker Packard packaging for my 1956 Packard. It was a Ranco unit.
