Ok. So turn and test. I turned it a 1/4 and it doesn’t feel much resistance. Will proceed with caution.

Caution is the key. Make any packing nut adjustments with coolant in the system. I'd observe for evidence of a leak after adjusting, and if you still have a leak, I'd try another 1/4 turn. The nut does not need to be tight. If your engine is in running condition, I'd run it a few minutes after adjusting the packing nut, then look for any leakage. NEVER run the engine without coolant unless you remove the fan belt. Doing so is very likely to damage the pump seal. You may be able to use a small mirror to get a better idea of exactly what is leaking. Wipe everything dry with a soft clean cloth, then wait a while and then look for any new leakage. Good bright light is always helpful when looking for leaks.

Thanks. Yes. It pretty much gets wedged in. I am looking to see how to complete the bottom edge. Where it meets the running board trim. Not sure if cut straight across? Tuck it under?

My full running board rubber itself needs to be glued back down as it became unglued from the previous owner, but it looks as the corner/edge of mine was tucked beneath.

Early service letters actually recommended tightening the packing nut with engine running, and the pump turning. Not sure if that's even possible on later engines out losing a hand.

But the logic was this would put some heat into the packing and make it softer, which would help it shape to the shaft.

Thanks will work the nut when I get boards complete.

I found these but not sure where they belong? I don’t remember removing them.

Any ideas what these are?

Are they for the removable B pillars?

For sure not on a convertible coupe.

Trying to install the light switch and knob, but running into issue, where the cowl vent is blocking the line-up for the switch and the hole in the dash? I know this was not the case when i disassembled, but I am not sure if i move the vent in the process? The vent lines up and open and closes properly, so I assume not?

I tried at different angles, but no luck. To have the "L" line up proper, I will need to have it at a bit of an angle, but turning away from the vent, but that still does not fit.

Thoughts?

Here are some shots of mine to go along with our phone conversation. Darn auto focus likes to pick up wires in the foreground but should give you an idea of its insert location.
As you know it is cramped and crowded in this area so I tried to take a few but there is not a lot of space to get much difference in angles.
Good luck!

Thanks Bob for the post and the phone call. Yes a very tight fit, but i got it in. I adjusted the wires to com in from the underside which freed up some space.
Unfortunately, the new Knob i got must have been adjusted, as now my "L" will be almost on its side, which is unfortunate. I don't think i am able to adjust. feels like the knob is on there pretty solid.

Great news!
Yes, I believe the knob is a full interference fit on the shaft. Can you simply rotate the switch in behind so the "L" is level? I guess it depends on the wire length/clearance. I know the crooked "L" would bug me, My "T" is offset a bit sometimes on the throttle cable and I fuss with that to straighten it.
