It’s a 41 engine, so while some loss in value not a serious one as it is a 356. Packards are not like muscle cars in this

A business coupe or opera coupe ought to move pretty good with a 356. 356 with overdrive would be great... power, speed, and economy.

Senior business coupes are very rare, and are the lightest body with a 356. Probably the only performance challenger would be a Buick Century

This one is a club coupe. Pretty close to the business coupe in weight.

Something I need to figure out pretty soon is whether to go with the dual side mount spare tires or find smooth fenders. I am 50-50 on it.

---It was mentioned to me the DSM get in the way of working on the engine.
---I prefer the smooth look.
+++I like the idea of carrying two spare tires and not using trunk space.
+++DSM were original to this car.
+++the DSM fenders and covers are in great condition.

Perhaps I should find a set of smooth fenders and prep/paint everything, then decide.

Side mounts are notoriously hard to actually pull off the car and get the covers off without scratching up the paint. I think most folks treat them as ornamental and call AAA when they have a flat.

In my opinion they make the car look front heavy.

My dad's '38 has sidemounts. Initially I liked them because they looked more expensive/important. In practice they are very heavy and difficult to manage. If I ever did get a flat I wouldn't bother pulling from the sidemounts...they don't even have any air in right now anyways.

Honestly I wouldn't say they are terribly in the way when working on the engine. The massive fenders are the worst offenders in that respect. It's hard to lean over them and they are so tall that they cover most of the engine bay. If I really had to I could remove the sidemounts to work on something in the engine...haven't had that need so far.

figure sidemounts add 250 lbs to an already nose heavy car. 2 spares? Only if you follow roofing contractors trucks....
