Patching Exhaust Leaks

My 55 Deluxe has some exhaust leaks:

- One bolt is stripped in one head resulting in the typical "exhaust leak" sound on the center port on the passenger side.
- The exhaust pipe is rusted through (maybe 1/2” hole) after the header.
- The muffler has a significant hole from rust.
- Maybe others down the line.

I have some exhaust wrap, metal zip ties, and silicone spray. Are these sufficient to basically get these leaks taken care of? Or are there other options, especially for the muffler?

Exhaust wrap

Silicone spray

They might patch the leaks in a pinch but if the system is that bad the muffler might also have internal blockage that could cause engine damage. I'm presuming as a Deluxe that there is only one system to worry about rather than dual exhaust as mine have.

Hmm, I have some exhaust out the tailpipe just not much as most is leaking out the muffler.

Yup, single exhaust. Dual exhaust optional but probably not on any Deluxes ever made.

You could always dump it right after the headers. Neighbors would love it.

On the head, a heli-coil is worth your time, and not a great expense.

I assume you're trying to patch the holes for now, new exhaust later when more of the project is together? I think that will work fine, absent any dead rodents.

I've used tin cans with either worms gear clamps or muffler clamps.
