Transmission identification

As some of you might know I installed a R11 OD tranny in my 38 coupe. I'm curious as to what year tranny I used. There was a thread about the differences in the R11 but I'll be darned if I can find it. My tranny doesn't have a reverse cutout switch on the case and it doesn't have a side plate. I remember something being said about a side plate. Any guesses?

If it has no lockout switch it is a 49-50. Those still used the lockout switch on the cable under the dash. Also, yours will have the slip joint in the driveshaft as there is no slipjoint at the rear of the tranny as on 51-54.

What did you do about X member clearance? I am under the impression that 38 and earlier cars need X member modification for this conversion. I put a 49 R-11 in my 39 Super 8 over christmas and just love it!

I had to cut the bottom of the X frame off then after the installation I made up some steel plates and bolted the bottom of the frame back on. Haven't detected any movement of the frame yet and I keep a careful check on it.

Ok, good to know. Had wondered about fitting to 38 and earlier.

Thanks,
Jim
