Does anyone have a 51-6 tank out of the car they could take the basic size measurements and a couple of pictures of?

Yes, I've got a spare tank available. I can take some basic measurements tomorrow and take some pictures, but as you may recall I'm a silver halide guy so you'll have to wait for them until I finish the roll of film.

This tank is from 5672A-1834
Edit: Disregard red numbers written on tank. They are quick approximations only. Use dimensions in text of each post.

Edit: 25-1/2 inch wide (not 25-5/8).

I am assuming no longitudeinal taper because upper and lower halves of the tank are the same die stamp.

8-1/2 inches tall measured from top of ribs on top and bottom:

The centre of the filler tube sets 4-3/8 inches forward of the rear face of the tank.

O_D & PV8, Thanks for your offer and efforts. Need to do some more checking as it's close, but not quite with cigar--although maybe with minimal work.

HH56. What are u looking at???? Let me guess, a mid-50's Chevy tank??? It's been tried but supposedly requires notching the frame. I'm guessing there is a way around that.

If u need anymore pics or measurements just let me know.

Actually mid 50s Ford. Shape, sender mount, capacity good, size close & I think workable but a short filler neck is out top where vent is on ours & near side edge. Don't know if the metal "tunnel" up to gas door is workable with it there & further back. Might require cutting filler and then making some kind of support & connecting back with a hose. Anything else I think would be minor details.
