Does the door weather stripping on a 1951 200 4 door go onto the door or the body?

The rubber weather strip goes on the door, and on the body around the trunk. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I thought that was I remembered a few years ago when I removed it. I have been looking at some non Packard vehicles lately and saw the rubber on the body and started to wonder.

I need to take a picture, but I notice a thin metal strip that was screwed to the B-pillar rear door jam. I assumed that was the some kind of retainer for the some weather strip.

Yes, there is a molded piece of rubber strip that attaches to the metal strip.

Can any style weather stripping be used around the doors other than custom made stripping unique to Packard?

There are some "universal" products that will work in some places such as the trunk lid and parts of the door but other areas almost need to be the unique custom molded parts to get a proper fit or door closure. Restoration Specialtieshttp://www.restorationspecialties.com/ and Metro Moldedhttp://www.metrommp.com/ have a selection of common or universal items. You may find something that will be close to the proper profile at either.

Download the Restoration Specialty catalog. They have a considerable number of other items commonly needed during restoration and also a decent selection of door rubber profiles at a slightly less expensive price than Steele. On the molded items you are almost going to have to use Steele or Kanter.

The Steele catalog shows 2 different styles of door rubber for the 1951. I purchased the one that was supposed to be more popular but the door would not close. I purchased the other style and it worked better. I suggest that whatever you purchase to just get enough to do one door to check it out.
