Yet another amazing Fleabay offering!

Loved this listing which described the car as having a list price of $ 61,000 but being made available to you for just 58,000. My friend, I can tell from the cut of your jib that you are a person of discernment and, hopefully, a little alzheimers.....

Please note that the car has but one mile on it and features a v8 engine, as shown.

I love buying from a real expert....

If i'm paying 58K for a postwar car, it better already have new diamondbacks on it.

Please tell me that isn't the original dash and upholstery???! It looks horrid! Like a fancy school bus! Where is the wood-grain paint!?!!

Painted dash is correct - woodgraining held up very poorly in convertibles.

From what I can see, I don't think that price is too far out of range for a Custom 8 convertible, though it certainly needs some attention. It's one of the rarest of postwar Packards, only about 1218 made and 1 of the most expensive US-made cars offered in 1948 (I believe the other was the Custom 8 LWB limo). Really top-notch Custom 8 convertibles, 22nd and 23rd series can easily flirt with the $100,000 price range.

Well, the seller is mentioning a V8 but that is obviously an error in writing.

Owen is correct. The Custom Eight LWB limo was the most expensive car sold in the US in 1948.The second most expensive car was the Custom Eight Convertible. They cost as much as an average small house.Convertibles all had body color dash.Leather and brocade interior is probably one of the nicest available.$58,000.00 is a good price but I don't believe those hydraulic pumps are available any longer.

Upon further examination.... there are two other 1948 convertibles up for auction as well. One looks a bit rough, but the maroon one presents well in snaps.

I notice that it too is "discounted" from it's original "list" price.

By the power vested in me by myself, I proclaim the one true list price to be......

I'll bet we will see the removed item soon enough....

Probably not a very early Custom 8, as the headlight doors were changed from body color paint to chrome quite early on (about #4100 on the sedans). Not a very late one either, as the open front bumper was changed to a solid bar-style about #9200 on the sedans. These estimates by Ed Ostrowski. It would be nice to have corresponding body numbers of these changeovers for the 2259s, perhaps Robert Neal's forthcoming book will have some further information on that.

PS - above in reference to the car pictured in Gusha's link.
