waterpump woes

for those that don't follow my blog.

picture explains it all

i'm an idiot.

i need these:

water pump housing

waterpump seal

water pump propeller.

I'm pretty sure Joel has another pump propeller as i couldn't save the old one. damn plastic.

max/kanter for the seal

anyone have a spare housing just laying around.

For a donation to the Packard ino site I will send you a complete pump, pulley, and fan blade for shipping. I don't know what size engine or if 55 or 56. It is a light yellow or beige color. If you want it let me know.

Thank you VERY much for the kind gesture. Let me think it over, because i'm not sure if kanter/max will just sell me the shaft seal without the kit. (and i can't find it anywhere on the net.) if not i will have to go other routes. plus my friend Mike (local friend) is looking in his parts. sorry to be so cheap and its not that i don't want to donate. (and for those that are curious...yes i have donated to this site before....as much as i could)

i will let you know when i find out from Mike and we will proceed from there.

and Kev...it wasn't a drop..it was a pressing on hub booboo. i supported it on the outside of the housing instead of on the shaft itself, like an idiot. so BANG POW BOOM fly across room. trust me the will pass the 4ft drop cause i plowed it into the concrete floor from being so pissed and it took a chunk outa my floor and didn't hurt the housing. darnest thing....can't press on it...but can fling it into concrete. who woulda thought.

i have come to realization that there is absolutely no way to get the hub end off without breaking something.

i got the hudson pump in today. yes it works, BUT you have to change the hubs.

well when i was trying to get the hub off i busted the housing again. this time i supported the housing on the thickest part i could. there is no way to support it on the hub itself. instead of busting the outside ring of the housing it cracked straight through.

well i did manage to salvage the impeller, thankfully. i was abit nervous about that though.

i went ahead and took off the hub from the bearing as the bearing was still good and would make a good spare. i had to wrench down on the press so much that i was just about to give up when BAM it popped the hub loose. i mean i was putting some pressure on that bad boy when it finally let loose.

so in conclusion, there was never any way to salvage that housing with as hard as it was to get that hub off. never in a million years.

so i paid 45 for a cast iron impeller. i'm fine with that. so packardtaximan, i sure could use that pump we talked about.

this time, i plan to just send it to Terrill Machine, with the cast iron impeller...im not breaking another pump housing.

Packardtaximan, let me know, i sure could use the help, but if it is gone i understand and no worries.

jsut updating this thread with this information.


it is 1 7/16 wide for the housing and 5/8 for the shaft and 3/4 tall just like the original type seal.

here is the seal.

this is the high end version with VITON material, carbon washer and all stainless including the seat. the seat is press fit on the shaft as well, so you would push the seal in the housing...then press the seat on the shaft till the seal is loaded enough, then put on your impeller. then you don't have to worry about a not perfect impeller to seat surface. the stainless steel seat is smooth.

it is a bit pricey, but like i said they have lower versions made of other materials, like Buna rubber etc.

buna goes up to 225 F and VITON goes to 400 F

they have molded rubber washer, but i think the original is carbon.

anyways, i may buy one later on to test and if good then we will have a replacement and the job is done.
